SFIMA celebrates 5 years and 400-members strong; And, social media is here to stay.
The double-billed SFIMA Event on Thursday evening, October 11th, was a celebration of SFIMA and a close look at the state of social networking.
Thursday was the 5th anniversary of the South Florida Interactive Marketing Association, and as you know, 5 years is a lifetime in the interactive space. Think of all that has changed on the web since 2002 -- likewise, imagine all that will change in the next 5 years! And, surely SFIMA will be there to inform and foster a community for all interactive South Floridians.
SFIMA members were treated to a gourmet dinner and the opportunity to break bread and get to know other members. Just after the desert, SFIMA's past-presidents were recognized and given gifts of appreciation and applause from the crowd.
The social media panelists, although from the same niche, came from very different companies: MySpace.com, Moli.com, ScrapBlog, and Neighborhood America. MySpace.com enjoys a younger crowd; Moli.com is targeting 18+ for networking; ScrapBlog (just like it sounds) is an online scrap book and blog with a ton of functionality; and, Neighborhood America is a service company to help businesses develop and execute a social media strategy.
The moderator, AdTech chair Drew Ianni, did a great job keeping the conversation on track. He started the evening discussing "C to C: Consumer to Consumer," and ended the night with his predictions for the industry.
All in all, the event sponsored by GunsterYoakley was excellently conceptualized and enjoyed by all.
Panelists included:
Tom Bosco, VP of Video Sales from MySpace.com
Judy Balint, President and COO from Moli.com
David Bankston, CTO from Neighborhood America
Carlos Garcia, CEO, from ScrapBlog

Just When I Thought Twitter was the Big Winner...
Twitter has become the most popular name in Micro Blogging, the mini posts seen by your 'followers' in a closed social network.
I was preparing a post about all of the cool Twitter applications including TwitterVision, TwitterMap, TritterGram, Jott to Twitter, Twitter Updates in Facebook etc.
And then Google strikes first in the Micro Blogging Acquisition Wars and grabs Jaiku, which along with Pownce hadn't acquired nearly as much popularity. It will be interesting to see what Google has in mind for Jaiku and what they saw in this new technology.
If you want to be my friend on either of these micro blog platforms, please come on by www.Twitter.com/JayBerkowitz or at this link on Jaiku

The survey is open to both organic and paid search marketers. To participate in the survey, click here - http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=DZCiIcuGHhZtJqv7NrjTrQ_3d_3d
