Amazing Kaleidoscope Flash Site

I had the pleasure of judging the Dallas/Fort Worth Interactive Excellence Awards (EIMA) last weekend (okay, I know, I need to get a life). One of the entries was the Fruit of the Loom video site.

First of all, as a kid (heck as an adult) I really loved the old fashioned kaleidoscopes - the ones you pick up and turn to make the designs, colors and patterns change. Well I found a web site that does the same thing. I'm not sure how they do it but when you drag your mouse over the moving patterns, it does the same thing as when I pick up the physical version and move the discs.

Add to that some amazing music, musicians, singers and artists performing engaging music videos that are wonderful but just a little strange in that they feature guys dressed as fruit singing about underwear. I'm not kidding, my partner asked me from the next room, "who is that artist, I really like that song." When I said they were singing about T-shirts, underwear and underpants, the response was, "Really?" not quite believing me.

Anyway, check it out, I hope you enjoy the site as much as I did. Oh, and if you want to know the origins of heavy metal music, you need to watch the Spanish videos and have at least a rough understanding of the language or at least another Romance language. You can find this video under "Our Day Job/Espanol. " Don't miss the English commercials especially the play on Cirque de Soleil called "Performance."

Has Mobile Advertising Finally Reached Critical Mass with Pandora?

Business Week reports on Pandora, a nine-year-old, free online service that lets users design "radio stations" based on their musical preferences. Since Pandora launched a mobile edition two years ago, it has signed up 6 million people (total users for mobile and Web versions is 27 million). That has prompted the likes of Best Buy (BBY), Dockers, Target (TGT), and Nike (NKE) to buy ads on Pandora and experiment with what remains a cheap advertising medium—one most companies have yet to figure out.

HIGH CUSTOMER RESPONSE
Target says 27% more people clicked on its ad for the release of Christina Aguilera's greatest hits CD last fall than on any other mobile Web campaign.

The death of free web content predicted by Murdoch

Rupert Murdoch says that News Corporation-owned newspaper Web sites will begin charging users for access within a year. He says that the current free access business model favored by most content providers is flawed and that "The current days of the Internet will soon be over." Other experts note that executives are looking to generate new income streams from online content - that online advertising revenues are not enough.
